Abstract

Art and life in the sonnet XIII of Garcilaso de la Vega: the passion for the form

This article meticulously analyzes the poetic and rhetoric strategies used by Garcilaso de la Vega in his sonnet XIII, where the myth of Daphne and her conversion into a tree is thematized. Garcilaso rewrites the mythological subject within the new context of his own life experience. The center of the poem is autobiographical, hence Garcilaso invites the reader to participate a suggestive metamorphosis from life into literature establishing an appropriate balance between real and fictional world.
